Sinochem News Recently, French energy giant Total Energy announced that it has acquired a Spanish plastic recycling enterprise named Ibert Reginas.
As a chemical manufacturer, Total's goal is to increase the proportion of recycled plastics in its plastic product production to 30% by 2030 and strengthen partnerships with other companies.
Ibert Reginas specializes in producing polypropylene and polyethylene from recycled industrial waste at two factories in Valencia, Spain, and then provides products to automotive parts and building materials companies. In addition to technology, Total Energy will also use its customer network to expand its sales channels for recycled plastics to Europe.
Total Energy stated that in the context of the highly focused circular economy, waste plastics have become an important topic. In the field of recycled plastics, Synova, a subsidiary of Total Energy in France, has established a recycled polypropylene production line with an annual production capacity of 45000 tons. In addition, a new production line with an annual production capacity of 15000 tons will also be put into operation. In the field of bioplastics, Total Energy is collaborating with Dutch chemical manufacturer Corbion to establish a joint venture in Thailand.
Total Energy plans to increase the production of recycled plastics and bioplastics from 60000 tons in 2021 to 1 million tons by 2030. In order to achieve this goal, Total will continue to expand its production capacity through mergers and acquisitions and cooperation.
